Indian Society for Earth, Planetary and Environmental Sciences (ISEPES) was established in Orissa, India in the year April 2006 with the following objectives.

OBJECTIVES OF ISEPES

Indian Society for Earth, Planetary and Environmental Sciences (ISEPES) in order to popularise and promote Earth, Ocean, Space, Planetary, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences publishes the journal – Geo-Spectrum Interface (Formerly Shilalipi) bi annually. This journal aims at publishing articles (research papers, review papers, short communications, notes) with lucid explanation and popular mode of presentation emphasizing social relevance and sustainable development.

Special publications comprising popular and review articles relevant to earth system science events and processes shall be brought out time to time.

Other important activities include conduct of seminars, workshops, quiz and poster competitions and publications of learning materials for students of schools, colleges and universities of our country as a part of popularization and promotion of Earth, Ocean, Space, Planetary, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences.

Conduct of Scientific Awareness Development Programmes (SADP) in the fields of natural disasters (earthquake, tsunami,floods, land slides etc.) and natural resources (land, water, mineral, soil etc.) with their ways of management.

Launching of National programme on E-Geo science Teaching &Learning

Regular online circulation of egeoenvirospace news covering latest discoveries and events in the field of earth,atmospheric,planetary,space and environmental sciences

Scientific studies constituting eminent and dedicated scientists of our country and abroad on all these branches of science(mentioned above)

Provision of awards to scientists of our country and abroad for their outstanding contributions to earth, ocean, atmospheric, space, planetary and environmental sciences.

Conduct of programmes on Environment Education for Citizens and Students (EECS).

Wasteland Reclamation Programme (WRP) through plantation for protection of environment.

Conduct of Employment Generative Teaching Programme (EGTP).

Free consultancy for Ph.D programmes in earth, atmospheric and ocean sciences

PROGRESS ACHIEVED

1.  Regular publication of Geospectrum Interface – A journal of earth, planetary, atmospheric, space and environmental sciences is continuing since 2006.

2.  Regular online circulation of egeoenvirospace news covering latest discoveries and events in the field of earth, planetary, space, atmospheric and environmental sciences has a great bearing on the student and geo community and 800 readers have registered their names free of cost under this programme.

3.  Four projects on earth science and bio –diversity have been completed with active co sponsorship of D.A.V School,Berhampur.The projects were aimed at development of awareness among students and public regarding different mineral resources and their judicious use and conservation ; conservation strategy of endangered species like sea turtles,dolphins etc. Nine educational institutions have participated in these project activities.

4.  Under Employment Generative Teaching Programme (EGTP), Post Graduate students of Geology were sent to different mining and petroleum related organizations for job oriented project training which resulted in creating a good link between students and emloyers.Further practical trainings imparted by experts result in giving guarantee
