Objectives of Geo-spectrum Interface
Geo-spectrum Interface - A journal of Indian Society for Earth, Planetary and Environmental Sciences (ISEPES) aims at publishing articles (research papers, review papers, short communication, notes) bi-annually with lucid explanation and popular mode of presentation emphasizing social relevance and sustainable development. Articles generally focus on frontier areas of earth, ocean, space, planetary, atmospheric and environmental sciences with state of the art scientific aspects within understanding of different sections of readers (students, researchers and different spheres of geo-community). Standard articles related to basic and fundamental aspects of these sciences are also published in this journal.
Themes of Geo-spectrum Interface
We provide media to incorporate wide ranging articles related to
cataclysmic natural disasters ( earthquake, tsunami, cyclones, floods, hurricane, heat wave, volcanic eruption, drought and landslides) , their effects and ways of management.
water and mineral resource exploration, exploitation and their management with environmental considerations,
renewable energy resources and their utilization,
nuclear energy: its application for the benefit of the mankind,
GIS, GPS, photogrammetry, digital image processing, digital mapping and in general Geoinformatics and their roles in integrated development and rural poverty alleviation;

applied mineralogy and mineral beneficiation,
mining, mineral based industries and environmental considerations,
mines safety & mine environment,
glacial geology and environment,
nano geoscience,
medical geology,
deep continental studies – structure, composition etc. with applied aspects.
Also, we have emphasized other important themes viz.,
Ocean Science and Technology (coastal geology and their economics and environment; dynamic and geological oceanography),
Space and planetary sciences and technology (Atmospheric Science, climatic changes and effects, space exploration, global climate, planetary science).
Environmental science (water, air, land, sea pollution and radiation hazards and their ways of management; global warming, waste disposal, desertification, impact of mining and industrial activities on environment and remedial measures etc.)
We also invite articles related to
(i) employment opportunities in the field of Earth System Science,
(ii) institutional profiles (present activities, achievements and future programmes of national and international geoscientific institutions),
(iii) geoscience and cultural heritage, geoparks and geotourism, geoethics,
(iv) Earth System Science education at all levels (schools, colleges and public outreach) with reference to natural resource (soil, land and water) and natural hazards and their management,
(v) medical geology,
(vi) geological and ecological perspectives of wetlands (lagoons, lakes mangroves, estuaries etc) and their management.
We shall highly appreciate and welcome rare, unique and classic photographs related to Earth System Science, environment and world famous cultural heritage with mention of captions to include the same in our section – Geo Album.
We propose to participate in the propagation of themes (earth and water, hazards, resource, heritage etc.) of the International year of the Planet Earth, 2008 launched by UNESCO worldwide.
We are also planning to devote a separate section on Geoscience and Cultural heritage to generate public understanding and awareness of world famous and invaluable cultural heritage, their geological perspectives with protective measures from natural and anthropogenic hazards.

Comments of eminent geo personalities of our country and abroad on Shilalipi (Geo-Spectrum Interface at present)
Dr. M.S.Rao, Editor, Journal of Geological Society of India has emphasized the need of publication of such a journal in his review column “SHILALIPI – A new popular Earth System Science Publication” in JGSI, Vol. 64, No. 4, October, 2004, p.583. Dr. Arun Nigavekar, Former Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi had appreciated the effort of incorporation of articles related to present activities, achievements and future programmes of national and international academic and geo-scientific institutions on their contributions to the society. Dr. Godfrey S. Nowlan, Geological Survey of Canada has commented “The emphasis that Shilalipi (Geo-Spectrum at present) has on fundamental earth processes and the present needs of society is key to success of this publication. As someone deeply involved in improving the public awareness of earth science, I look to this publication with admiration. Please accept my congratulations on Shilalipi : It is an example for the rest of the world to follow”. Dr. Raffaele Pignone, Director General, Emilia – Romagna Geological Survey, Italy has mentioned “The objective of Shilalipi” to popularize and promote Earth System Science is strongly shared by the Emilia - Romagna Geological Survey, Italy and I am happy to contribute to your (editor’s) endeavour”. Dr. J.C. Mohanty, I.A.S, Principal Secretary to the Govt. of Andhra Predesh has commented “Very few journals deal with articles both on technology and popular scientific issues. Shilalipi journal is one such great initiative”. Prof. Wataru Maejima, Osaka City University, Japan has commented “It is really a unique attempt to popularize and promote Earth System Science (Earth, Ocean, Space and Planetary Sciences) together in one journal within understanding limit of students and public”. Dr. V. Balaram, Scientist-F and Head, Geochemistry Group, NGRI, Hyderabad has commented “Articles published in Shilalipi will be able to kindle and exite the young minds and help in a proper understanding of the latest development in different aspect of earth sciences”. Ms Afia Akhtar, Director, Geological Survey of Bangladesh has commented “Whatever we see around us – the sky above our head, the earth crust on which we are standing and the ocean under which valuable mineral resources are hidden, and natural calamities like flood, tornado, earthquakes, volcanic eruption and as well as our surrounding environment, are all the subject matters of earth system science”. Dr. Gian Gaspare Zuffa, Professor of geology at the University of Bologna, Italy has mentioned “The journal seems to have all the necessary pre requisites to become a popular international publication on Earth Sciences and technology in the future”. Dr. U. de. S. Jayawardena, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka has mentioned “I think there may be many geological journals and similar publications in India which is a very large country with many natural resources. Therefore, the competition to achieve the objectives among other publications is great challenge. I have no doubt that this journal will achieve its objectives and have a permanent impact not only in India but also in other parts of our globe”. Dr. Helen King, University of Plymouth, U.K. has commented “Spreading knowledge about Earth System Science, its links to other sciences and its relevance to everyday life is a crucial step in finding solutions to our global problems. And, for this, I commend this new publication “Shilalipi for providing an information and interesting perspective across a wide range of topics”. Dr. R.N. Mishra, Former Deputy Director General, GSI, Govt. of India in his comments has mentioned “Shilalipi is an unique attempt to publish Geoscience - related thoughts and ideas that enlighten the younger scientists and encourage them to actuate for higher goals and motivated mindsets right from their early days into the vast nuances of the professional world. The effort is adorable and the articles admirable”.
